Seagate Desktop HDD ST4000DM000 4TB Drive Review

We had a look with Seagate’s NAS HDD earlier. This time we’re taking a look at its Desktop HDD counterpart 4TB ST4000DM000 drive. Desktop HDDs are available in capacities up to 5TB. Seagate Desktop HDD 4TB uses an odd spindle spin speed of 5,900 RPM with 4x 1TB platters inside. The 5TB counterpart uses 1.25TB per disk.In the drive’s specification chart, its under “Desktop HDD.15” drive.

Other than for desktops and AIO PCs, Seagate recommends this drive for home servers and even for entry-level direct-attached storage devices (DAS).

This drive weighs 610 grams and its average operating power is only a 7.5w. Its obvious that Seagate is aiming for low-power consumption HDD drive, but how good this really is?
